Old Man

Playing cards or dominos,
as we do every week,
he slipped back into French,
then could barely speak.

His brain had grown too tired,
and his body soon it followed.

I know he is old and frail
and today he cannot think,
but it’s a hurtful thing to see,
and even harder to swallow.
